Hi there & welcome to Annie's Place. A place inspired by and named after my late Grandmother Annie. Somewhere I can be creative, and share my love for all things hand made. I like nothing better than sitting with hook & yarn, crafting something home spun & completely unique, or rustling up some yummy baked goodies. I live in a town with a beautiful embankment, situated on the River Great Ouse. You may know me as 'Colour-Heaven' on Flickr or 'CosyKitty' on Ravelry. Why not stop a while.....?!!

Candy Coated Granny Square Happiness

Hey hey lovely people, I'm back today to share some Candy Coloured Crochet Happiness with you. My desktop PC is conveniently situated in front of my bedroom window, where I can stare out over the River Great Ouse watching the world go by. People going about their business and youngsters rowing in fours and eights with great vigour and verve. It's super sunny today and I'm fantasising about warm summer days.

I sorted through my stash of yarn this past weekend. I came to the realisation that because I have so many odds and ends I should do something to utilise them. The jumble of colours amongst the pile were really seducing me, and I thought they would look nice worked up into a Granny cushion. So I set to it.

I thought a traditional granny square pattern would fit the brief, and as each row of colour has been added I've gotten more and more excited about the overall scheme. I started with the colour I had the least yarn available in, and worked forward from there. The randomness is really working well. There's a mix of wool, acrylic and cotton in there, and I opted for a 4mm hook.

I'm sure to have many more lovely hours playing with this over the next few days. Fitted in amongst the more mundane activities necessary to modern life. Oh to be able to dedicate more time to all things hooky related!

I shall do a proper ta-dah post as soon as I can. But before I leave you today I thought it might be nice to include a few blogs I'm thoroughly enjoying.

I have a million reasons to thank you all for your continued presence here at Annie's Place. It's nice to know you're out there still despite my sporadic posting. Do say hello...xx

See you soon xxxxx

  5. I have cali king granny stripe blanket started myself. I am about up to a queen size. I figure about 4 more skeins to finish the blanket and make my pillow shams. Its a heather gray with a tiny pink 4 granny middle. I am going to love it. Its thick and warm. I can wait to see yours finished. I love the colors. I love all your beautiful work. I am going to work on some of your motif work just as soon as I get some hooky stuff done. Thanks for sharing!

  6. Lovely lovely colours:) Love the simplicity of it. I'm just embarking on a random colour project myself, one square, many colurs, mixture of yarns, we'll see how it goes! It's quite nice to have a project that I haven't really planned or pre-bought yarn for. It gives a great excuse to buy random single balls of yarn just because I like the colour (and, like you, use up some of my yummy stash!)
Looking forward to seeing how yours turns out:)

  19. Your granny blanket is looking very pretty! It was a nice surprise to find your update in my Bloglovin digest today. I always enjoy your colors and neat work. Today I especially like the scene you described at the beginning: an upstairs window providing you a sunny view of the river and the happenings down below. Alexine in Maryland, US

  25. I love the colours you are using for you granny cushion cover, they remind me of spring. If you are up Peterborough way again there is a lovely yarn store that I discovered just last month in Stamford. It's tucked in a little lane and is tiny but it's like a treasure trove! I live further down the A1 not far from Stevenage. We're nearly neighbours!
